While Duane and I didnât think our occasional disagreements were much of an issue, Rassie could see a problem before it had become a problem. He was like a mechanic with an engine, and heâd worked out that Duane and I were two cogs that werenât quite meshing. And if our teeth werenât filed down soon, weâd risk crashing the whole machine. Maybe not in the next game but somewhere down the line.
I now believe that if that meeting hadnât happened, maybe we wouldnât have gone all the way. Who knows, but he certainly grabbed the guys by the throats and got everyone back on task, which was to sort out any personal differences and give everything for the team for the next couple of weeks.
