When you speak, you are literally joining two worlds.

Committing yourself when you aren’t clear about what you’re committing yourself to is foolish.

When you make a promise, you’re committing yourself to a future action and building expectation for that action in the other party.

And in the very act of attentive witnessing, you can be released from the grip of their automaticity.
