But rather than uproot the family all at once, Dunaway moved up solo for sixty days, a move she says was critical for helping her get off to the right start. “I am a big believer in balancing an intense professional life with a healthy and fulfilling family life, especially with a five-year old,” Dunaway says. “But when you’re a new CMO at a new company in a new industry, the first couple of months is not the time for balance.” She adds that once you get your grounding, start building relationships, and begin to establish priorities, then it’s the right time to come back all together.
